Ex IRS Employee Sentenced for Leaking Returns

I started my career road trip as an accountant and tax preparer.  Back then there was no such thing as a refund loan from your preparer.  We enjoy the same type of client-attorney privilege when it comes to tax matters

That is because your tax information is only between you and the IRS, and any tax preparer or authorized representative you chose to discuss it with.  We are sworn to secrecy.  They do try to turn CPA's though, holding their CPA accreditation out as some sort of moral reasoning.

Anyways, that is why it was never our business to see Trump's tax returns.  Now how did they get out?  Good old .gov employees who can either be leveraged or get leveraged.

"WASHINGTON, Jan 29 (Reuters) - A former U.S. Internal Revenue Service contractor was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison for leaking the tax records of Donald Trump and thousands of other wealthy Americans to media organizations, with a judge calling his actions a threat to democracy.

"Charles Littlejohn, 38, pleaded guilty in October to a charge of disclosing income tax return information without authorization.
""What you did in targeting the sitting president of the United States was an attack on our constitutional democracy," Reyes told Littlejohn. "It cannot be open season on our elected officials.""
