California and Democrats on Kimmel and First Amendment

California and Democrats on Kimmel and First Amendment

The Democratic party has gone so far off the rails into a place that even reality is hard to find, we have the Jimmy Kimmel fiasco.  Oh my, how Trump had Kimmel removed from the air.  No, ABC and affiliate stations did.

They point to an off hand remark from the FCC chair during an interview and say, "SEEE!!! Trump did it!"  Suddenly, the left is crying foul about free speech.  Funny, there is ample evidence that The Autopen (#46) actually did some censorship, in fact I believe we can find Autopen's press secretary saying so in a speech.  We have a sitting Supreme Court Justice saying that the First Amendment "hamstrings" the .gov.  Below, we have a montage of Democratic politicians calling for censorship.  We've had a decade or three with the ever encroaching "Political Correctness" where if you deviate one jot or tittle from the official Party line, you get cancelled.

Jimmy Kimmel made some disparaging remarks after the murder of Charlie Kirk.  It is said that his ratings haven't really been very good.  ABS, and Nexstar and Sinclair, owners of many of the various broadcast stations around the country decided to cancel his late night show.  Then some guy shot up an ABC office in Sacramento, CA, and of course, got released right away, and then ABC/Disney decided to restore Kimmel, but Nexstar and Sinclair still had reservations.  Sure, all Trump's evil plan to be a dictator.

After all this, in the name of all this free speech violation the left had shouted from the rooftops, California passes Senate Bill 777, a bill to censor online speech.  Sinclair and Nexstar restored his show, but the ratings have plummeted.  Let's go:

  • Jimmy Kimmel returned to his late-night show after a suspension by ABC for controversial comments.
  • The FCC and former President Trump criticized the host, raising questions about free speech.
  • Some broadcast companies, including Sinclair and Nexstar, replaced Kimmel's show with other programming.
  • First Amendment experts expressed concern over a federal commission pressuring a media company over content.

What was FCC's role in canceling Jimmy Kimmel's show on ABC? Here's a recap of what happened

No left wing violence here:

"The man accused of shooting at an ABC affiliate in Sacramento last week may have been motivated in part by that network's suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, authorities said Monday."

Jimmy Kimmel suspension might have been a factor in shooting at Sacramento ABC affiliate, DA says

Guess the FCC actually did not order Kimmel cancelled, otherwise, this wouldn't happen.  More media lies.

  • Sinclair agreed to re-air "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on its ABC stations after a nine-day pause.
  • The local broadcaster owner said it received "thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders."
  • Rival broadcaster Nexstar also agreed to bring back Kimmel's late-night show.

Sinclair and Nexstar agree to bring back 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' to their ABC stations

"ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is experiencing a stunning ratings crash just days after the host’s return from suspension.  The figures confirm that viewers are abandoning the late-night comedian in droves.

"Among adults aged 25–54, the most coveted advertising group, Kimmel shed 73% of viewers, plunging from 1.7 million on Tuesday to only 465,000 on Thursday.  In the 18–49 demographic, he lost the same share, falling from 1.2 million to 334,000."

So, since it is all about free speech, here is California's opinion on free speech, right back to the soundbites in the X video above.

"California Senate Bill 771, officially titled the “Social Media Accountability Act,” has emerged as a significant legislative effort to regulate the role of social media platforms in amplifying ‘harmful content’. Authored by State Senator Henry Stern (D), the bill was recently enrolled and presented to Governor Gavin Newsom on September 22, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in its legislative journey."
