As we watched some NFA items come and go from the President's One Big Beautiful Bill, on the down low, DOGE went on in to see what they could do to dismantle a regulation or three.
This supposedly has already happened, so we'll see if it was just more theater or if there is some meat to come out of it.
- On July 1, the Department of Government Efficiency sent staff to ATF to revise or eliminate over 50 gun rules by July 4.
- Following President Donald Trump’s February executive order to review Biden-era gun rules, DOGE aims to overhaul ATF regulations by July 4, reducing burdens and inefficiencies.
- DOGE plans to cut the ATF 4473 Form from seven pages to three, consolidating questions and eliminating about 541 inspectors, as part of its overhaul of gun regulations.
- Gun-Control advocates warn that the rule changes could make it easier for dangerous individuals to obtain firearms, creating safety risks and empowering gun traffickers, Feinblatt said.
- Meanwhile, 15 Democratic-led states sued on June 9 to block the changes, while some Republicans call to abolish ATF and merge it with DEA.
