I am aghast. Again, the black voter is being singled out for discrimination. I guess we need to make sure we take into consideration the race of a certain area before we redraw congressional lines.
Hmmm. Let me repeat that in shortcut. We need to make sure we take into consideration race when congress redraws their districts. Hmmm. OK, um, do we all have STOOPID tattooed across our foreheads? I thought this is exactly what the Jim Crow laws did. Anyways, enough of my dribble:
- Voting rights activists are challenging Alabama's redrawn congressional districts, accusing state Republicans of failing to create a fair district for Black voters, as mandated by federal court orders.
- A three-judge panel had previously ruled that Alabama's existing districts violated federal law and required two districts where Black voters comprised a majority or something close to it.
- The plaintiffs, represented by the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, are asking the panel to draw new lines for the state, claiming that the new map enacted by the Republican-controlled legislature perpetuates the Voting Rights Act violation."
