We may have heard the term lately, 'presumptive candidate'. I thought I heard it in reference to President Biden being declared the 'presumptive candidate' for the Democratic party for President in 2024.
Well, the Democratic party has their flim flam ways of getting through their primary season. I've heard of 'super-delegates' whose votes count more than regular delegates. I thought this was to declare Biden as the Democratic candidate for President in 2024 therefore pretty much bypassing all the Primary (s)elections. I don't know
I do know this.
How the Constitution sets out the election process for President (as amended) does NOT at all match how we are doing it in practice. The Electors are to vote for a President and a Vice-President. There's nothing there for primary elections, running mates, and all the back room dealing crap that runs our machine today.
With all that said, former President and current Presidential candidate Donald Trump was offered to bypass the primary elections as well. Here is what he thought about it.
"Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that he does not support efforts to pressure the Republican National Committee into declaring him a "presumptive nominee'.
""While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX," Trump wrote."
